Deloitte’s 2009 Global Shared Services Survey Results: Cost Reduction is Top of Mind

Among the 265 shared services leaders worldwide who participated in the survey, cost reduction was the most frequently cited priority for the next two years, with 72 percent identifying it as a top three priority. Process improvement – a vital component of cost reduction – was also cited by 62 percent of respondents as a top three priority.
Other notable findings of the 2009 survey include:
- Companies are continuing to expand their global footprint of shared services operations as the pace of global deployment continues at an unprecedented rate
- The urgent need for cost reduction due to the current economic times are driving organizations to include processes in shared services that were originally “off-limits” by the business
- Shared service centers are emerging as a source of talent for the businesses they serve -- which is providing broader opportunities for advancement
- Organizations that treat their shared services organization as a strategic asset are realizing the most value in terms of both tangible and intangible benefits
