‘We are fully committed to growing our business profitably, while enhancing our social and
environmental performance,’ said Graham Smith, Senior Vice-President of External Affairs and
Environmental Affairs, TME. ‘Our holistic approach is designed to create value for both Toyota, as a
sustainable business, and for the communities in which we live and work. In this report, we have not
only shared our accomplishments, but the challenges that we face, both as a company and industry.’

FY2007 report highlights:

  • Invested almost €300 million in Europe, including the opening of a new manufacturing plant (St.Petersburg, Russia), for production of the Toyota Camry.
  • Reduced average energy consumption per vehicle built in Europe by 44% since 2001 –
achieving the lowest levels of any volume car manufacturer in Europe*.
  • Achieved 2010 environmental targets for European Manufacturing Network (water, energy, waste, and Volatile Organic Compounds) three years ahead of schedule.
  • Launched road-testing of Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHVs) in Europe as part of Toyota’s pursuit of
    cleaner and greener vehicle technologies.
  • Ranked No.1 in 18 countries for Complete Customer Satisfaction – up from 11 countries in FY06.
  • Allocated 1.19% of operating income to social contributions – exceeding TME’s stated target.

For the 2008 report, Toyota has also invited the Director General of the International Union for Nature
Conservation (IUCN), Julia Marton-Lefe?vre, to share her views on the much debated use of first and
second generation biofuels by the transport sector.
