Teck Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report 2008
17 December 2008:
Along with summary sustainability reports prepared by each of Teck’s Operations, Our Commitment can be viewed and downloaded at www.teck.com/sustainability
Teck has changed its approach to reporting this year, adopting the trend of applying AA1000’s materiality principles to produce a shorter printed document, while providing a full report detailing socioeconomic, environmental and social performance on its website. As a first step towards full third-party assurance, selected environmental, health and safety indicators were independently reviewed by Deloitte & Touche LLP.
In addition to reporting on progress of the company’s 2006 sustainability goals, Our Commitment addresses the issues that most interest Teck’s stakeholders. Highlights include best-practice environmental compliance and recycling initiatives, stakeholder engagement progress, and special interest spotlights on noteworthy innovations and programs. In addition to a “Five Stages of Mining” primer and informative Glossary, the reader will find a new “Your Concerns, Our Response” section which was generated through engagement with Socially Responsible Investment groups, NGO reports and the media, among others.
Teck’s 2007 sustainability report is intended for the company’s stakeholders. To submit feedback or order a hard copy, please email Kim Patzwald at sustainability@teck.com
