Diageo’s activities around the world bring pleasure to consumers and opportunities to employees and business partners. An example highlighted in the report is Diageo’s encouragement of local grain cultivation in Africa, the most recent instance of which, in Cameroon, was showcased by the UK government this year as part of its Business Call to Action.
Other significant examples of how Diageo conducts its business responsibly and with integrity include:
- Diageo’s continued support for the principles of the UN Global Compact
- The huge ambition of its Water of Life One Million Challenge
- Environmental improvements
- Endorsement of the World Economic Forum’s challenge to business to help strengthen public governance
- Endorsing the Bali Communique on climate change
- Signing up to the CEO Water Mandate
Diageo prepared the report by applying the G3 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative, with the aim of painting a compelling picture of the company as a good corporate citizen.
Diageo was formed more than a decade ago through the merger of Grand Metropolitan and Guinness. The company acquired additional spirits and wine brands from Seagram and added others by both acquisition and innovation. Today, Diageo is the proud champion of eight of the world’s top 20 premium spirits and offers a broad selection of great spirits, wine and beer brands.
