Operational Risk Management – Capitalize on the complexity in today’s business environment

CFO Roundtable Meeting

3rd December, 2012
17:00 - 21:30
Restaurant Terborght, Huizingen

Operational Risk Management

Driven by the volatility, uncertainty and complexity in today’s markets, operational risk management is moving rapidly onto the CFO agenda. According to a recent global IBM CFO Study, 77% of all CFOs rate risk management as very or critically important, but only half think their organizations are addressing it effectively. Furthermore, Information Technology risks are significantly contributing to the growing complexity of risk management. For every year since 2004, IBM has asked CEOs all over the world to name the external forces which will have the biggest impact on their organizations. Market factors have consistently topped the list while technology factors have risen in importance and now holds second place. This development is pushing finance to transform and adapt to new realities.

From these studies it is clear that business executives expect significantly more market complexity, deeper/faster cycles, and more risk going forward. As a consequence of this uncertainty, many companies do not fully understand the risks they are facing and delay critical investments needed to improve performance and growth, potentially missing out on value-creating opportunities. This situation drives the need for improved risk management strategies.
