More MBA Schools Turn To Sustainability

11 August 2009:

The MBA program with a sustainability component is gaining in popularity, with some schools offering new certificates and concentrations in sustainability and others, such as Marylhurst University, offering online MBA courses in sustainable business.

While many think of alternate energy and environmental principles when thinking of the sustainable MBA, courses which discuss public policy and the use of business to further sustainable social benefit are also part of this new approach.

"Sustainability is critical not only to ensuring future generations will be able to exist on this planet, but also to the continuing growth of the world economy," said Bruce MacLean, director of graduate programs in management at Valparaiso University.

With billions of dollars of government money dedicated to funding alternative energy solutions and environmental concerns on the forefront of public debate and policy, this may be the perfect time to find MBA schools offering courses in sustainable business and get an MBA degree.
